Summer Learning Journey: weird and Wonderful

Weird and Wonderful

Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day. Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

The way I would do this is do: 3 x 365=1090
Answer: 1090 ml a year

  1. Hi Kayla

Great work with this activity. But I would like you to go back and check your working our for this problem.
You are right that 3 mils a day and there are 365 days in a year. But you need to check out your answer.
Did you think about what the answer would be if it was a leap year?
Three mils is not much water and it is crazy to think that a cactus that is in a really hot dessert can survive on this little amount of water.

Give this one another go so that I can award you full points for this activity.
Remember it is always good to also show the algorithm that you use to work it out. If you show this then you might be able to see where you have gone wrong. You are close but it is not quite.

Thanks Kayla and I look forward to your new answer.

    Until next time

    Allie :)
