Summer Learning Journey: Towering Timbers

Towering Timbers

I do think we should be allowed to log, only if the tree can't stand much longer and we plant another one in it's place!

Reason 1: I could be for safety.

Reason 2: Some people need it for firewood to keep them warm.

Reason 3: As long as we are planting another one in it's place it should be fine.

Reason 4: If we don't use some off the wood there might not be enough building material for people to be building houses, and some people will need to go homeless!

Summer Learning Journey: Pancakes and Maple syrup?

Pancakes and Maple syrup?

My favourite food is breakfast food is waffles with maple syrup.
ingredients:
50g (2 oz) butter (melted)
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup (250 ml/8 fl oz) milk
1 cup self-raising flour

first you add the sugar and eggs to the melted butter, and lightly beat with a fork. stir in the salt and milk, then fold in the flour, mixing just enough to combine ingredients.

heat the waffle iron to a suitable heat (ours is on 5), then spray with non-stick spray. pour the batter onto the prepared iron, close the lid and cook for about 5 minutes (depending on your heat) until everything is evenly cooked and golden brown.

then you can customise them to suit your tastes like add berries, syrup or even ice cream!

Summer Learning Journey: The Secretive Skink

The Secretive Skink

Pros ✓
1. Getting to research and look after the animals

2. If something goes wrong there are rangers there to check and problem solve

3. It would be a great leaning opportunity for any ranger that would be interested

Cons ✗
1. There would probably be a lot of things that the rangers would miss like family, food, other activity's

2. the very few people that are allowed to live on the island might interfere with the program that's happening

3. Sometimes the problem might not be able to be solved

I would like to be a ranger, other then missing my friends and family, I think I would enjoy it because I love animals and anything to do with them, and I think it would be the best learning experience.

Weird and Wonderful

Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day. Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

The way I would do this is do: 3 x 365=1090
Answer: 1090 ml a year

Summer Learning Journey/Activity 2

Greymouth

Weather: In Greymouth it rains a lot, but then in Summer it can get really hot. The  swimming pool is good for both weathers because it is indoor and has both warm and cool pools. as well as a water slide.

Shops: Because Greymouth is quite small we have the basics like the warehouse, supermarkets, petrol stations e.t.c.

What to do: usually in Greymouth a lot of people go to town and hang out. or the go to the pool, or the park, or a walk along the beach, or you can go grab a coffee.

People: A lot of people in Greymouth are friendly, some will have conversations with you about your day.

Summer Learning Journey/Activity one

The Legend of New Zealand

1. The Maori name of New Zealand is Aotearoa which means the land of the long white cloud.

2. New Zealand was once governed as part of the territory of New South Wales and later a part of Australia.

3. It is one of the three countries in the world that has two official national anthems of equal standing.  The first is God Save the Queen and the other is God Defend New Zealand.

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks
Introduction:  Rosa Parks was a African American civil-rights activist, On December 1st 1955, she was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man. Violation of the city’s racial segregation ordinances.

Who is Rosa Parks? Rosa Louise McCauley was born the 4th February, 1913, and died October 24th, 2005. In 1932 she married Raymond Parks, who encouraged her to go back to high school and earn a diploma. She later became a seamstress. 1943 Rosa became a part of NAACP (National Association for the Advanced of Colored People). She served as its secretary until 1956.

The Bus Seat: On December 1st 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man. Violation of the city’s racial segregation ordinances.
On November 13, 1956, the U.S. supreme court upheld a lower court’s decision declaring Montgomery’s segregated seating unconstitutional, and the court order was served on December 20; the boycott ended the following day. For her role in igniting the successful campaign, which brought King to national prominence, Parks became known as the “mother of the civil rights movement.”

How was she a active right activist? Rosa was deeply active with NAACP and Montgomery Improvement Association. Working to help improve civil right in her community, she had had a bad experience with bus driver before, she got stopped from getting on the bus and was told she had to use the black door, she went to use the door and the bus driver drove off.

The Impact Rosa Parks have on society? When Rosa was released from jail she didn’t realise the impact she had on other black people, a few day after the incident with the bus seat. Nearly every black person in Montgomery was protesting. Rosa was now a civil rights icon.

Why did I chose Rosa Parks? I chose Rosa because she stuck up for what she thought was right. And she influenced others to stand up for the black community. In my opinion that takes a lot of courage and work. And to get a whole community to join in means she was a big influencer.

A Moment in Time

WALT:Describe a moment in time-1st attempt
A Moment In Time
Me and my family walked outside and saw that the whole town was nearly flooded with water. There was a black plastic float sitting on the top of the water surface. Me and my brother jumped on the float, we sat there with our feet in the cold, brown flood. My other brother was pulling us along, we went to look for our mother and father. As they had gone to make sure everyone had enough food and water, and were prepared to clear out at any moment. My heart sank as I saw a lady and her newborn baby running out of their house, she was unable to see the big rock in the way and tripped over, Me and my brothers ran over as fast as lightning, our heart skipping the next 5 beats. My oldest brother grabbed the baby, while me and my other brother lifted the lady up, she had hurt her ankle. So she had relied on me and my brothers to carry her and her newborn. Which she later named Elizabeth Harriet Chong. Named after me and my brother, as my other brother Jack insisted on her not being after him. But me and Harriet on the other hand were extremely grateful. Anyway after we saw our parents helping an old couple get to safety. We got everyone cleared out of the town and moved them the the nearest town. We double checked all the buildings to make sure no one got left behind. Weirdly enough my house had been robbed 2 months ago and I found my great great grandma’s necklace. It had been a family heirloom for many years, I thought I had lost it, I ran to my parents and brothers to ask who lived here. My mother and father said that it was a 32 year old man. We were the same age, anyway his name was Michel. I knew I had heard that name before but where?

My Speech 2018

Speeches 2018

I was very nervous to do my speech because I had to do it in front of people that I didn't know because I was new! But I did it and I was very proud of myself, I did my speech on Egyptian history. I am not able to copy and paste my speech because I did it on Q cards. My next step would be to memorise my speech (visual aid) and slow down when specking. because when I was doing it I speed up a lot so I could just get it over and done with.
